Diamor® coated sliding components in lubricated environments
Diamor® coatings offer two advantages for sliding components in lubricated environments: wear protection and friction reduction. Wear protection is in particular provided by the super hard ta-C coating if the lubricating film (temporarily) fails or abrasive particles (chips, soot, foreign particles) are formed in contact zone. Friction reduction occurs under mixed friction and marginal lubrication conditions with various lubricants. The ta-C coatings with water based environmentally friendly lubricants proved particularly beneficial. In some cases the achievable friction is extremely low (“super lubricity”).
The most successful applications of Diamor® coatings include automotive components:
- valve train components such as camshafts, valve lifters, cam followers
- piston group components such as piston rings and piston pins
- gears in gearbox transmissions and axle drives
- fuel pump components such as pump pistons and nozzle needles
In addition, the coatings are successfully applied on various machine components. An example is process valve balls.
