Nanofair 2012 - to transfer knowledge into expertise

Presseinformation (Nr. V) /

From June 12th – 13th 2012 Dresden will be the host of the international symposium “Nanofair”. The congress has proved itself as an excellent European platform for the field of nanotechnological research. Nanofair with its included exhibition will take place for the 9 th time and is organized by the Fraunhofer-Institut für Werkstoff- und Strahltechnik Dresden, DRESDEN-concept, the City of Dresden - Economic Development Office and the Nanotechnology Competence Center Ultra Thin Functional Films Dresden.

Experts from 23 foreign countries will come together in order to network their know-how with Dresden’s cutting-edge research. In the past, by the way, the organizers succeeded in winning 2 renowned speakers, who ,only a few weeks later, were awarded with the Nobel prize.( e.g. Andre Geim 2012).

The program is now available on the website www.nanofair.com. The focus of the conference will be on nanotechnological issues, comprising nano materials for light weight construction, nanoelectronics, optics, use of energy, life science as well as nanoanalytics. For 2012 even more foreign experts have accepted to attend the Nanofair, and, in addition, you will find a considerably extended poster exhibition. Here you can meet the key players of industry with a minimum of organizational expenditure.

Renowned scientists have confirmed their lectures, e.g. Lance Criscuolo, Executive Director of Zyvex Technologies, Columbus, Ohio, USA.  e has successfully commercialized nanotechnological materials. His company has been integrating carbon nanotubes (CNT) into carbon fibers since 2007. Rodrigo Martins (University de Lisboa, Portugal) will explain the relevance of nanotechnology and- analysis for the paper industry. Another speaker is Frank Stietz, Executive Director of Carl Zeiss NTS GmbH. Together with the Fraunhofer IZFP Dresden his company develops the world’s most modern microscope. His main focus lies on the analysis of innovative 3-D structures. The resident Dresden scientists are going to present their latest research results in the field of bio-nanoreactors, transport systems and the application of carbon nanotubes for novel electrodes for data storage or printed sensors.

Meanwhile Dresden is regarded as one of the leading sites for the research field nanotechnology. Especially issues in the field of nanoanalytics, nanoelectronics, functional nanocoatings will be discussed and the Dresden companies and research organizations will exhibit their internationally acknowledged cutting-edge research result. Nanoelectronics coming from Dresden is another trademark. The capital city of Saxony provides a fertile soil for the atmosphere of change with respect to energy industry. Especially in the field of battery technologies the Dresden Competence Cluster is one of the successfully leading organizations.
